KY GRANDMA SHOOTS GRANDSON IN SELF-DEFENSE
Kentucky State Police now say a Letcher County grandmother who shot and killed her grandson possibly did it in self-defense.
Police believe Simon Haynes and his girlfriend Kyla Bellis of South Carolina intended to rob his grandmother, Gerry Haynes when the shooting happened.
Police say the grandmother was hit in the head several times with a blunt object before she shot her grandson in what they believe was self-defense.
Gerry Haynes has been released from the Whitesburg ARH Hospital.
Kyla Bellis remains in the Letcher County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
She is charged with robbery and burglary.

Virginia Geraldine Haynes is my mother. Simon Christopher Haynes is my son. There were years of family struggle. My mother was a very cruel and manipulative person who tortured my father in his last years, (he was bedridden and she would shut his door, take the phone out, and leave him there all day), and took Simon out of their will as soon as my father was bed ridden and she obtained power of attorney. She has since built herself a $250,000 home and sold my fathers farm that was handed down from his father, she sold it against the wishes of her children. She has admitted to me that Simon never had a weapon, that he never touched her, she also told me that she stood by the bed where she waited with her gun, and that she pulled the trigger when he looked at her "like she wouldn't do it." Please do not believe what you are hearing in the news. The only person who would tell the truth is dead. She chose to kill him. She did not have to. She could have called the police, locked her door, left the house. I do believe that Kyla struck my mother twice but even Kyla told me that Simon stopped what was happening and refused to allow this to continue. I believe he had full intention of killing her but, it was not in him to do so. My sons were very close to my father who my mother was so cruel to. People do not know what truly goes on behind closed doors. My mother chased Kyla and tried to kill her also. My mother returned to her bedroom, called a friend first, 911 second, and all the time my son died alone in her kitchen floor. She has told so many different stories that I can only tell what I know that fits between these two womens stories. My son was feeding a homeless man out of his house before he died. He never raised his voice to me in 22 years of his life. He was his little brother's best friend. He is not the monster that he has been represented to be by my mother. But I know personally who the monster is.
