From the Chicago Sun-Times: Victim's son sues other victim's estate

BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- The son of a woman killed in a triple murder at a hair salon has filed a lawsuit against the estate of the salon's owner, who also was a victim.

The lawsuit contends hairdresser Michael Cooney, 62, "carelessly and negligently" failed to protect Doris Fischer when he didn't install "sufficient safety devices" at his salon after an attempted burglary there in 2003.

The bodies of Cooney, the 79-year-old Fischer, and her 82-year-old sister, Dorothy Bone, were found March 2 at the salon. All had been stabbed to death, and no one has been charged with the killings.

Fischer's son, Julius Fischer Jr., is seeking $100,000 in his lawsuit against Cooney's estate, filed Thursday in circuit court in Belleville.

"I think it's sad it's come to this," said Marcia Scrivner, a friend of the late hairdresser.

"But this whole situation is just bad for everybody involved."
