HUMANS CAUSE VIOLENCE AND DEATH IN BIG DUMMYLAND...

From the Chicago Sun-Times: 3 die in weekend gun violence

An argument among men drinking on a porch claimed the life of a South Side man early Sunday. Two others were killed and three injured in separate incidents of gun violence over the weekend.

Police said Rafael Trujillo Jr., 28, and a 38-year-old friend returned to a residence in the 6200 block of South Talman Avenue around 1:40 a.m. A disagreement erupted with three men who were sitting on the porch drinking, police said. One of the men on the porch pulled a gun, shooting both Trujillo and his friend.

Police found both shooting victims lying in the street. Trujillo, of the 8000 block of South Lavergne, was dead on arrival at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn from gunshot wounds in his head and back. The second man was in critical condition at Christ with a gunshot wound in his chest. Police were seeking three men who fled in a sport-utility vehicle.

A 14-year-old assailant whose intended victim turned a gun on him was hospitalized with a gunshot wound in his abdomen.

Youth sought

Shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday, a 51-year-old man who had just parked his car was intercepted by two teenagers as he walked to a residence in the 1400 block of East 66th Place. The three spoke briefly, then one youth pulled out a revolver, and used it to strike the older man about the head several times, police said. The man grabbed the handgun and, in a struggle, shot the 14-year-old in the abdomen. The boy was taken to the University of Chicago Hospitals. The second youth ran away. The older man was taken to Jackson Park Hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises to his head. Police were seeking the second youth.

A short time later, Robert Griffin, 21, was fatally shot about 9:30 p.m. Saturday as he stood with a group of people outside 6850 S. Ridgeland. Griffin, of the 1700 block of East 69th Street, was dead at the scene from a gunshot wound in his head. Witnesses said the shooter approached, fired and fled. No one was in custody.

Saturday afternoon, police acting on a tip discovered the body of Geraldine Gist, 37, in an abandoned building at 7125 S. Hermitage. Gist, of the 1700 block of West 71st Street, was discovered lying on the floor of a rear bedroom, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. No one was in custody.
