MAKE HIGHLY TRAINED PROS PENSION PAY...SOUNDS GOOD TO US

From the Sun-Times LETTERS: Make cops pay for abuse

Over the last few months, City Hall has paid out close to $11.5 million to victims of police brutality and wrongful arrest. As a Chicago taxpayer I say, ''Enough is enough!''

It's not effective to simply suspend or fire these wrongdoers for their actions. I'm suggesting that the exorbitant settlements be made from the Chicago Police pension fund. Maybe that would make these guys think twice about the consequences of their unprofessional and illegal conduct. If I were to receive a citation from one of Chicago's finest, I wouldn't have the luxury of having those who pay my salary also pay for my indiscretion. It would come out of my pocket and, more than likely, I would try my hardest to avoid committing the same mistake again.

It's time these sworn public servants started acting more responsibly. If not, then they should pay the price.

Dunning
