From the Chicago Sun-Times: Meth, guns found in doctor's home
Dr. Helmut Ahlert told police he hoped to start work soon as an anesthesiologist at Mercy Hospital, but that job was likely jeopardized Sunday after he was charged with drug possession.
Ahlert, 37, was found with 16 grams of crystal methamphetamine and two loaded handguns in his 51st floor apartment in the 500 block of North State, police said.
Alerted by an informant, Town Hall District tactical officers took a search warrant to Ahlert's place Sunday afternoon, Chicago Police Lt. Robert Stasch said.
After Ahlert let them in, the officers discovered the drugs, with a street value of $5,300, along with two unregistered guns -- a .357 Magnum with a 6-inch barrel and a .380-caliber Beretta semiautomatic pistol, Stasch said.
Ahlert, a native of Germany, was charged with drug possession, failure to obtain a firearm owner's identification card, and two City of Chicago charges of failing to report ownership of a handgun.
Ahlert told police he moved to Chicago in September from northeast Indiana, where he worked at Goshen Hospital.
"He told us he was supposed to start a job at Mercy Hospital later this month," Stasch said.
OK, the meth aside for a moment, this guy probably had no idea, coming from Indiana that you need an FOID card in IL or that you can't possess a handgun in Chicago. I just love how the media says "failing to report ownership of a handgun" like that would have made it legal. Go ahead and report you have a handgun to the city and they will raid your house as fast as this doctor's.

Actually, it's any gun that has to be reported, not just handguns in the People's Republic of Chicago. As I recall, the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin years back had an article about a court case about a HUNTER who stopped off at someone's domicle for a few days. Once again, the nefarious "informant" (I believe in that case, it might have been the neighbor) called the constabulary, and they hauled the guy and his longguns off. The man claimed in Court that he didn't have to REGISTER his guns, being an out-of-stater. Of course, the human anti-gun seweage that IS Chicago's judiciary decided otherwise. And didn't they catch some sort of German military reenactor in Chicago with his AR-15 and charge him similarly? Seig Heil to Dick Daley!
Let this be a LESSON to all gunowners in the PRC; don't TELL anyone you OWN GUNS! The only one that should know you own a gun is YOURSELF. Don't let your GIRLFRIEND know; do you think that when you break up she has your best interests at heart???
