CHICAGO -- A Chicago man was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday after police linked a gun found in his home to last week's fatal shooting of a motorist on the Southwest Side, officials said.

Jose Salcedo, 23, of the 2600 block of South Kildare Avenue, confessed to shooting Keith Thomas, 19, of the 3800 block of West Hayford Street, on Sept. 28 after a traffic dispute, police said.

Salcedo said Thomas had "clipped" his car, so he followed him and fired several shots at him at 51st Street and Pulaski Road, police said. Thomas was shot in his right arm and back and died at the scene, police said.

On Monday, officers executed a narcotics search warrant at Salcedo's home and found a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun. Tests linked it to the shooting.
