From the Chicago Tribune: Bank held up, attempt made to rob another

NORTH SIDE -- Authorities are investigating whether a man who robbed a North Side bank Tuesday afternoon attempted to rob another bank a few hours later.

Police Sgt. Eugene Mullins said a man entered the Bank of America branch at 963 W. Belmont Ave. at 12:50 p.m. and demanded cash.

Police said the man had his hand in his jacket pocket, as though he had a gun. Police do not know how much money was taken.

Later Tuesday afternoon, a man tried to rob a Chase Bank branch at 3620 W. Irving Park Rd. but did not get away with any money, said Ross Rice, a spokesman for the FBI's Chicago office. Rice could provide no further details.

Rice said agents are investigating whether the same man was involved in both crimes.
