More than 22 million veterans currently reside in the U.S. That’s nearly 8% of the American population. Last year only 80,000 of vets took advantage of some of the employment and rehabilitation services, but almost 6 million veterans took advantage of the GI Bill education benefits, and 1 in 7 homeless individuals are veterans. To put this into perspective, there are more veterans in America today than there are individuals that are unemployed as of right now during America’s recession.
This Veteran’s Day hopefully you took the time to stop and remember those who are currently serving and have served this country and sacrificed so much for the rights and privileges Americans are granted each day. Below is an info graphic put together by Pick Up Please that has even more startling statistics and numbers about our vets. It also has some great information about how you can help contribute to the many of the programs and support groups available either monetarily or through sacrificing volunteer time. Please take a look!
